Italian High Renaissance Painter, 1483-1520 Italian painter and architect. As a member of Perugino's workshop, he established his mastery by 17 and began receiving important commissions. In 1504 he moved to Florence, where he executed many of his famous Madonnas; his unity of composition and suppression of inessentials is evident in The Madonna of the Goldfinch (c. 1506). Though influenced by Leonardo da Vinci's chiaroscuro and sfumato, his figure types were his own creation, with round, gentle faces that reveal human sentiments raised to a sublime serenity. In 1508 he was summoned to Rome to decorate a suite of papal chambers in the Vatican. The frescoes in the Stanza della Segnatura are probably his greatest work; the most famous, The School of Athens (1510 C 11), is a complex and magnificently ordered allegory of secular knowledge showing Greek philosophers in an architectural setting. The Madonnas he painted in Rome show him turning away from his earlier work's serenity to emphasize movement and grandeur, partly under Michelangelo's High Renaissance influence. The Sistine Madonna (1513) shows the richness of colour and new boldness of compositional invention typical of his Roman period. Adolf Seel
(1 March 1829-14 February 1907) was a German painter. He enjoyed training at the Dseldorf Academy of Arts. Seel visited the academy in Dseldorf in 1844-50, where he trained under Wilhelm Sohn. He then continued to train one year in Paris, spent 1864 and 1865 in Italy, 1870 and 1871 Spain, Portugal and the north coast of Africa as well as 1873 and 1874 the Orient, where he developed his preference for the architecture painting found rich food. Its pieces of architecture, particularly the Arab and Moorish buildings, are usually provided just as beautiful landscapes painted with a masterful perspective, lighting and coloring.
STRIGEL, Bernhard
German Northern Renaissance Painter, ca.1460-1528..Painter, son or nephew of Hans Strigel II. His training with Hans Striegel II shows stylistically in his early works in the Grisons, e.g. the Last Judgement (1486; Brigels, pilgrimage chapel of St Eusebius) and an altarpiece at Disentis (1489; St Johann Baptist). In the 1480s and 1490s he also worked in the studio of Ivo Strigel. Motifs in his pictures stem from engravings by Martin Schongauer and from Ulm book woodcuts. He met Bartholomus Zeitblom as a fellow worker on the high altar (1493-4) of Blaubeuren Abbey, both being influenced by Netherlandish art: Zeitblom by Rogier van der Weyden but Strigel primarily by Dieric Bouts. This influence is also seen in his Adoration of the Magi altarpiece (c. 1500; Memmingen, Stedtmus.). The altar of the Virgin for the monastery at Salem (1507-8; Salem, Schloss) has links with D?rer's graphic work: an increasing three-dimensionality and monumentalization of the objects and figures, and their disposition in space.

Jan Wallander är en svensk forskare, författare och företagsledare född 1920. Han är son till arkitekten Sven Wallander. Efter sin doktorsexamen var han verksam som nationalekonom vid Studieförbundet Näringsliv och Samhälle som han var chef för i början av 1950-talet, 1953-1961 var han chef för Industrins Utredningsinstitut. Han bytte bana från forskningen till banksektorn när han anställdes som direktör för Sundsvallsbanken 1961.
